I'm sure I missed something in the directions(cause I didn't read them) but the helmet does not always want to stay "flipped up" and falls down at very inopportune times(like when I am trying to hold a piece of metal in one hand and the gun in the other, then I have to put one down to flip it back up. Like I said I'm sure there is a way to adjust the tension for this but my pappy always told me, reading is for sissies. He was a crusty old bastard.
The other issue I'm having is with the darkening. Maybe it's a novice welding issue but I am having a very hard time seeing what I'm welding(bad news for the ferret). I have the darkening turned all the way down so I can see the difference between the levels and even at this lowest level I find myself completely lost. I think this would be fine for applications like drawing with a pencil but they don't make a weld puddle eraser that I'm aware of and some of my welds look like I had a few too many shots of Cutty Sark then woke up covered in guilt and shame.
Well I'm sure I'll sort these and many other issues out, but this is a great quality and very comfortable helmet. Also, everyone I spoke with at Hobart was very helpful. Great customer service!
The Hobart unit has more sensors, but a smaller FOV (same as almost all others....the one I had was extra extra large).
The old unit gave me a couple non-starts, despite being correctly adjusted, causing much discomfort to my eyes. The first time was forgivable, the second time I pitched it. I have used the Hobart mask more than twice as much now and it hasn't flashed my eyes yet.
The head strap is almost too complicated, though it's really not bad after you figure it out. The complicated design does allow numerous adjustment points for that perfect fit. And it's very comfortable once it's adjusted.
Comes with a bunch of extra lenses, which is great! You do have to crank down on the side knobs to keep the helmet in the up position, but I have no trouble with it.
Only thing I really don't like is that all the controls are inside the unit. You can get your gloved fingers to the controls with the mask down, but you can't adjust them unless you're in your bare hands. That kinda stinks.
There is also no on/off button. You're just supposed to leave it in a dark place I guess so the non-replaceable battery doesn't die (it recharges during use?). My little welding cabinet has it's own drawer for the helmet so it's a moot point for me, but maybe not for you.
I'm sort of a Hobart fan boy, using almost exclusively all Hobart products and figured why not the helmet, too. I don't regret purchasing it at all.
I highly recommend the product. It seems light and flimsy but I realize that also makes it very comfortable to have it on. After welding a few hours with it I'd purchase this item again if it should fail in 2 years.

I’ve been using this helmet as a professional welder for a year, and I’ve never had any issue with it.
When dropped, the front does like to pop out, but it always pops right back in, nothing damaged.
Highly recommend, I doubt you’ll find better in his price range.
